Given all the hysterical adoration, I figured I should probably read something about the guy. Mango’s biography is supposed to be pretty good, so I visited this shop near the Blue Mosque in hopes of finding one
As mentioned earlier, the indies in Istanbul don’t seem to like putting prices on or in their books…
…so I marched a copy over to a guy who looked like he owned the place and asked How much?
No. Sorry. Not for $50 CDN. Not for a paperback.
I looked all over for another copy at a better price. No such luck. And there were no other Ataturk books either, in English at least. Nary a one in Turkey about the most popular dude in the country’s history. Unbelievably, I found one staring at me for $14 here in Mexico City
and, continuing with the disbelief, another for less, several days later.

Other “new” bookstores in Istanbul ( and a commentary on used ones I visited) include
